During a period after the last collected book “Modern approach and promising technologies within the projects for development of oil-and-gas fields at Russian continental shelf” of the Vesti Gazovoy Nauki series has been published, the Sakhalin-1, -2, -3, as well as Northern Caspian offshore projects are continued, and the fields in the Gulf of Ob are being prepared to installation of facilities.
The Sakhalin-1 consortium realizes one of the most successful and technically complicated offshore projects. In 2017, within its frameworks the 9,2∙106 t of crude oil equivalent were produced, the most extended wells in the world were drilled, and soon the nest phases of project development are planned. This is a rare example of cooperation with foreign company (Rosneftt and Exxon Mobil) which has survived after American sanctions, and Russian Federation has prolonged a production sharing agreement for this project till 2051.
Three sea-based oil-gas platforms of the Sakhalin-2 consortium consistently produce nearly 16 ths t of oil and gas condensate per day and 50∙106 m3 of natural and associated gas per day. Annual production of liquefied gas exceeds 7∙106 t. A Molikpaq platform rig and the technological fleet are being upgraded. A program supporting Russian participation in the project is being implemented now, and service fees of Russian contractors constituted 109 USD.
The Gazprom PJSC has enlarged its own resource base at the Sakhalin shelf up to 941∙109 m3 of gas and 143∙106 t of condensate. The geological prospecting at the Kirinsk, Eastern Odoptu and Ayash licensed sites of the Sakhalin-3 project provided discovery of a big oil field named Neptune with geological reserves of 255∙106 t of crude oil equivalent. Nowadays, installation of subsea facilities at the Kirinsk field and designing of subsea development of the Southern Kirinsk field are continued.
The LUKOIL PJSC is the first and the only Russian company which develops hydrocarbon fields in the northern part of Caspian Sea; here the validated reserves of liquid hydrocarbons are estimated as 5,4∙109 t, of gas – as 8∙1012 m3. Application of stationary ice-resistant platforms is adopted as basic principal for development of the open fields and structures. In a zone of the shallowest waters the pile-and-gravity-based platforms and the artificial islands are applied. In 2018, the LUKOIL PJSC passed a milestone of 15∙106 t of oil at north of the Caspian Sea. At the fields named after Yu. Korchagin and V. Filanovskiy the works of the second stages of development are being carried out.
Of course, one cannot deny that the western sanctions have negatively affected are still affecting domestic economy. Especially seriously they have kicked the plans of hydrocarbon production at the Arctic and Far-Eastern shelves of Russia. This is a new reality, which should be not only met, but also used like a booster for real economic and technological breakthrough. This problem is a complex one, so it requires serious financial investments into the scientific studies. In due time, the USSR has been a leader in creation of the offshore equipment, but then this advantages and competences have been lost. The reason is that the large Russian companies spend for research and advanced development much less than their foreign competitors, and state structures don’t stimulate this process, for example, by allocating R&D investments to prime costs instead of profits. One can totally agree with the former general director of the Surgutgazprom LLC who has said that without R&D there would be no investment portfolio, and without investment portfolio there would be no future, in other words, if you have not fed your science today, you would feed the alien science tomorrow.
The suggested collected book contains 27 articles and factually reflects a modern level of scientific studies concerned with development of domestic offshore hydrocarbon fields.
